Education with Company Sponsorship

Student sponsorship is available for a wide range of education courses, but most commonly for higher education courses. Sponsorship is when you work with a company whilst studying. In return the company pays your course fees and/or a bursary towards your maintenance costs while you study.

Students may be sponsored throughout their whole course or just part of it. Commonly, students are sponsored for the final year of their course.

Courses and Sponsorship

Technically any course is eligible for sponsorship funding. However, the reality is that some types of courses are more likely to attract sponsorship financing than others. Sectors which are particularly likely to attract sponsorship include:

  • Engineering
  • IT
  • Sciences
  • Business

Why Do Businesses Offer Student Sponsorship?

Obviously in the profit-driven world of business, companies are unlikely to pay for students’ courses purely out of the goodness of their hearts. So, what’s in it for sponsors?

There are, in fact, lots of benefits to companies.

Sponsorship schemes allow businesses to attract and develop talented students. If they spot someone with talent they have a headstart on possibly attracting them as employees later.

Even if students who are sponsored don’t go on to work for the sponsor later, the business still gets the benefit of their skills and knowledge for a limited period. Businesses will only sponsor students they believe are talented.

If you are thinking of working for a business sponsor later on, a sponsorship arrangement allows them to start developing the skills they need whilst you are still studying.

A sponsorship arrangement allows both the student and the sponsor to have practical experience of a working arrangement before they make a full commitment.

Finding Student Sponsorship

Sadly, there is no one-stop shop for finding sponsorship. There are plenty of places you can look though.

University websites and department sites are worth checking out. Some businesses have relationships with specific universities. If there’s no information on the website, it’s worth a quick call to the admissions officer about possible sponsorship opportunities for the course you are interested in.

If there is a particular company you’re interested in being sponsored by/working for your first port of call should be their website as they may advertise sponsorship and funding opportunities there.

However, it’s also worth noting that not all sponsorship opportunities are advertised. Some companies may not be averse to the idea of sponsorship, but they will wait for applications rather than advertising general opportunities. A well-timed speculative letter or phone call could work wonders.

Finally, do check job pages of newspapers and industry publications regularly.

When to Start Applying

If you want sponsorship for your full course, you’ll need to start looking and applying around the same time as you send in your UCAS application.

If you are just interested in final year sponsorship or mid-course sponsorship it’s advisable to start your applications around a year before you expect the sponsorship to begin.

A Final Note….

It isn’t true that a sponsorship means that you are tied into working for the sponsor company when you graduate. This is not normally something either the company or the student would want. Businesses usually want to see people in action on the job before they decide whether to offer them a permanent job.

However, in a minority of cases some form of future commitment will be a condition of sponsorship, so always make sure you clarify any terms and conditions before you agree to a sponsorship.

@Layla Your story is heartbreaking to read, but I have to be straight with you: this page is about UK company sponsorship for education, and we are not in a position to award scholarships or funds ourselves. For Zambia specifically, have a look at organisations like the Beit Trust, Zambian Governance Foundation, or the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWEZA), which support orphaned and vulnerable students. Your local school or church may also know of bursary schemes worth applying to. Wishing you the best of luck.

My name is Emmanuel Chilengwe, I am 18 years old. However, I am writing this letter to you from Zambia which is located in South Africa. I am an orphan.

Nevertheless, here is my story. When my mom became pregnant for me my dad was mad because of jelous people at that time my family suffered a lot because they had nothing to eat and where to stay and sleep, after I was born my father started coming back to normal and when he was normal then he devorced my mom. Furthermore, I was rised by my mom because my father ran away from me when I was about 2 yrs my Dad married another woman when I was a baby and devorced my mom. Life as never been easy for me. Since my mother never went to school and she was not working, she managed to managed to pay for a small house which has two rooms. The house had no electricity and when rain comes all the house was filled with water and that's were all of us 8 children and mom we used to live in. Since I am the last born my mom loved me so much and when our father ran away from us I was a baby so she cared about me a lot. We had no source to afford our basic needs.

However, since I have sisters they started engaging themselves in prostitution and all of them stopped school because they wanted clothes and many needs and wants and that made them to ran away from home, after that my sisters became pregnant and they came back to us and my mom because they used to marry at an early age like 16 to 17 yes.

Nevertheless, when I reached 7 years old my mom took me to a community school because we had no money to take me at a school were I can learn English. Every day when my mom was preparing me to go to school she told me to work hard to school. When I reached grade 7 the level of poverty was high such that my mom started living in a house made of grass with all her children including our two nephews from my sisters who became pregnant in that house lice also used to be there because it was made of grass. We used to eat food that we grew such as maize, beans sweet potato leaves, pumpkin leaves and many more. In 2017 the level of poverty riched to the highest level such that everyone was thin and there on may our father who ran away from us died and we buried with tears on our faces because when life because too difficult for us he used at to send a K100 because he was a drinker who used to spend all his money on bear, credits and loans and on 5 April he died because he became an addict, at that time I was eleven years old and I can't work so all the pressures followed my mom, one day she woke up praised the Lord and went to buy sweet potatoes to the market so that we can eat breakfast she was prayerful because of thinking to much of us 8 children two nephews and how we are going to learn and live, she started screaming that my heard as starte

I am a 20 year old graduate from Watford and I am emailing to ask for help to support my time at university.


I have just completed my undergrad (accelerated course) and at 19 became one of the youngest black African graduates. Now 20, I hope to do my masters at ACM in Birmingham, where I have been offered a place, but I didn’t realise that the funding works very different for a masters degree.


I am only entitled to a loan of under £12,000 but this is given to contribute towards maintenance and tution fees. This won’t be enough for me to compete my degree.


I know this might be pointless but it’s my very last hope as I really want to study and I really need your help.

I have been offered a place at ACM and I am really excited to start in September. But, I may not be able to do my masters.

This means that the majority of my loan will go to my tuition which is £11,000, leaving me with nothing to be able to pay rent or survive with. My rent works out to about 5,400 for the 9 months I would be living in a shared home (cheapest option) and even then, I won’t have enough.

All I would like is for support or a bursary that will cover my tuition fees (or even at least 80% of it). I am okay with living uncomfortably in a shared house as all I want is to be able to study.

My name is Chama, I'm Zambian by Nationalist. I'm a second year Civil Engineering Student currently studying in India.

Thank you. If you are reading this. I'm a 17 year old teenager. I Live in a small town known as Wai, Maharashtra in India. I want to do Photography and I've found some colleges for me. As you know there is no value for a 12th pass out student. So I want to do a degree. And there are very very few college which provide with a degree. And the college which approved me, and the name is Asian Academy of Film and television in Noida. The only problem is the fee is alot. The college fee is around $5,000 a year, for three years. So I just want someone to help me out. And as you are in photography you know the value of clicking a picture, the subject, etc etc.
I've never told this to anyone but every time I click a picture it makes me happy from inside. The feeling of capturing things in a device makes me happy. The feeling is just great and awesome. I even don't have a gear. No camera, No lens just nothing. I want my first camera to be the Sony Alpha A7RM3. I know it's to expensive but I want to buy that camera or else I'll never buy one. If you help me, I can give you a really great result and I mean that.

About my family, only my dad earn money and as he works for the Government the salary is not that much to give me. Till now my education was carried by loan, but now the limit of loan has been filled and I really need so funds for my gear my college.

Greetings! I just recently completed my Associate's Degree at a Junior College. I applied to a university in the UK earlier this year for their Bachelor's program in Psychology and got accepted. They offer a full scholarship for international students every year and I applied for it but unfortunately, I was not the recipient. That scholarship was my only chance to attend University to finish my Bachelor's Degree as my parents cannot afford the cost of attendance at the University. As a result, I deferred my acceptance until 2020 to see if I can find any alternatives in how I can attend. Hi.
I’m an incredibly hard of hearing (wannabe) actress.
I’ve had progressive hearing loss since birth and now only have 40% left. I will lose it eventually. I went to schools that did absolutely nothing for disabled children and was stuck being unemployed because nobody would hire a hard of hearing worker for “safety reasons”. Even though I had a tertiary education diploma in laboratory science.
My initial love of science got me on the unemployment line for ten years, so I tried my hand at acting. As much as I love it, my hearing is a major obstacle.
Sign language at a community level is apparently uninteresting in my state.
I did a fair amount of research and I found a course that teaches Sign Language and Acting (as well as the application of signing with the acting profession).
The major issue (disregarding financial) is it’s in Glasgow...and I’m in Australia.
Of course, due to being disabled in a country that, as much as it likes to boast, has a dismal track record when it comes to supporting disabled people, money is hard to come by. Especially when everyone is on disability pensions. My brother for his hearing, and my mother for a cancer diagnosis.
As much as I’d despise sounding like a beggar, any financial aid will help and most certainly be greatly appreciated. It would be a shame if money was the only reason I couldn’t follow my dream.

I got the unconditional offer letter for the course of MSC computer system engineering at university of east London for Sep intake,but I couldn't get the admission at right time due to my financial prob. Hello..I wonder if there is a business out there that would be willing to support/sponsor 2 16 year old girls from Manchester who have been successful in securing a position at ADA..Addict Dance Academy in Leicester to study for their Diploma in Dance. Tuition fees are covered but accommodation is not and for the 2 girls the fees for a year would be approx £8000. The Dance Company recently reached the final of Britain's Got Talent 2014 with Addict Initiative and the 2 young ladies in question are on the brink of realising their dreams with the placements offered by this renowned professional dance company whose highly trained staff are dedicated to the success of their students. The girls were selected out of over 1000 applicants - the panel of Addict's staff obviously felt that the girls show promise and could be trained to professional standard..this is absolutely a dream come true for the girls and if any person or company could assist with their accommodation fees to enable them to fulfil their dream, that would be fantastic! I know this is a long shot but even a small contribution would help...we, as parents would be happy to discuss this further..thank you.......

I have been privately sponsoring a child who is totally orphaned since the year 2007 up to the end of 2013 when she finished her secondary education in Kenya. She has qualified to join any university of her choice in the country but at this juncture, i am unable to continue with the sponsorhip. University education in Kenya is about USD 1600 per annum and sincerely i do not have that kind of money since my own children are also in school. Her areas of interest are in electronic communication.

I am doing a 3 year course in Professional Dance at Cambridge Performing Art, England. I have been chosen from thousands and I was lucky enough to secure one of the 45 places on the course. By the end of the 3 years I will receive a National Diploma in Dance, Level 6. I see this as a lifetime opportunity where I will get to explore my lifetime ambition to perform on stage.

Due to family circumstances, my Mother being a lone parent, and the current economic climate I am struggling to pay my college fees.

Am the first born in a family of five. I did my secödary level exams in the year 2006. My parents who are peasant farmers were unable to pay the fee for my higher education. I believed in God that one day if it is His perfect will, i will join university one day. I got a job as salesman in a store where i earned 50 US dol lars per möth. I used to spend a little of the money for my personal effects and saved the rest though some times circumstances forced me to pay some fee for my blings when my parents wont make ends meet. Due to my hardwork and höesty in job, my boss got concernd. I joined University in Sept. 2011 where am taking a degree in Business Information and Technology. Am now in my 2nd and my boss is unable to pay my fee due to what he has told me its a down-turn in his busimess. Am looking foward for any person, family, organisation or company which will sponsor me so as to achieve my dream in lié. Blessings!
